Suzuki Certified Bass 1

James studied at Elmhurst College with Virginia Dixon, where he earned B.A. in Music with a focus in Jazz . He began playing music at the age of 10 when his parents bought him a saxophone, but he soon decided that bass was the instrument for him. His studies have covered a wide range of styles, with a strong focus on Jazz and Classical bass. After graduating from Elmhurst College, he went on to receive his Suzuki certification for bass, after which he taught bass and guitar for several years. He took a brief break from teaching to spend some time training as a luthier, focusing on bows for stringed instruments, but is now happy to be back doing what he loves most: teaching. In the past, James was a member of the Elmhurst symphony, and a substitute for the Rockford Symphony. He currently plays with the Chicago based folk group The Ghasper Ghoul, and the jazz group Ampersand. It is James’ belief that anyone can learn to play music and have fun doing it.
