Matt has been training on drum set and percussion since 2004. Although his playing is influenced by a variety of styles, his specialties are rock, latin, and funk. His philosophy as a teacher revolves around teaching his students about the role of drums and drummers in music. He has his students focus on developing a solid internal clock as well as four way coordination; the two fundamental building blocks of a good drummer. Along with that, he stresses learning how to read rhythms as easily as words, as well as the concepts that govern rhythms such as note values and time signatures. Matt is currently working on his bachelor’s degree.
